College GameDay crew breaks down key matchup between Michigan's defense, Nebraska's offense
Michigan has a chance to move to 5-0 on Saturday night as it faces Nebraska in Lincoln.
The Wolverines have been excellent so far this season, just one year after going 2-4. Jim Harbaugh overhauled his coaching staff in the offseason, and it appears to have worked wonders for Michigan on both sides of the ball.
Michigan’s defense has been exceptional so far this season, allowing just 12.8 points per contest. The Wolverines have shown improvement under first-year defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.

Aidan Hutchinson is a big reason why — he’s arguably the best pass rusher in college football, and enters this week with a B1G-leading 5.5 sacks.
“The only thing I see about Michigan is great defense again,” David Pollack said on College GameDay. “If you’re watching defense, they can rush the passer, they can get after you. Aidan Hutchinson might be the best pass rusher in all of college football. Watch 97 on the corner, he is relentless … I have a lot of faith in Michigan’s defense that hasn’t been talked about much throughout this season.”
But can Michigan’s defense stand up to a much-improved Nebraska offense? The Huskers, led by quarterback Adrian Martinez, have been much better offensively in recent weeks. They’re coming off a 52-point showing vs. Northwestern in Week 5.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit also commented on the matchup between Nebraska’s offense and Michigan’s defense on Saturday morning.
“They’re playing a Nebraska team at home that I think has finally found an identity offensively,” Herbstreit said. “They’re doing a really good job with Scott Frost. Martinez is making better decisions. They’re lining up in variety of formations … It’s a lot for this Michigan defense to deal with. This game is going to be very close but I think the Michigan spirit is going to get them through.”
Kick off is at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday.
