We’re halfway through the football season and part of that means college football analysts are looking to see who the best teams are in each conference.

The B1G has produced a handful of great teams this season and College GameDay was having a hard time deciding which team belongs at the top heading into today’s slate of games.

Herbstreit started things off and touched on how Iowa’s formula from the 1950s is still very effective in the 21st century.

“Only thing I know is, Iowa’s formula is from 1957 but it’s effective in 2021. They’re average starting field position? Their own 38. The opponent starts at their own 24. They’re plus 15 in turnover margin, No. 1 in the country. You can look at their offense, but they’re just doing what they need to do on offense. I don’t know that I can say they’re No. 2 talent-wise, but what they’ve done on the field, they don’t have to apologize for.”

Lee Corso did a complete 180 from Herbstreit as he doesn’t think Iowa, despite being ranked No. 2 in the country, is the best team in the B1G, nor one of the best teams overall.

“Iowa isn’t even No. 2 in the B1G, much less in the nation. That story tells it all.”

He then added how much he likes Michigan, despite their schedule about to get tougher.

“Michigan is for real right now. But they play 3 of the Top 10 teams later on in the season.”

After Lee spoke on the Wolverines, Herbstreit went in a different direction and said the Buckeyes are his top team in the B1G, despite talking up the Hawkeyes previously.

“I think Ohio State is the best team in the B1G.”

David Pollack nor Desmond Howard really didn’t give their top team in the conference. Pollack instead touched on how the top teams wouldn’t be ranked where they’re at if they played tougher competition.

“I think all of those teams are good. I don’t think they’d be ranked where they’re at if they played stiff competition.”

Howard mainly spoke on Michigan State after they got to 6-0 last Saturday.

“The surprise has been Michigan State for me offensively.”

A lot of these teams are going to play each other down the stretch so we’re all about to learn fairly quickly who the best team is.
