College GameDay was live from Cal for Week 6 of the college football season, opening Saturday with a preview and breakdown of all the crucial matchups in Week 6. That included a breakdown of Rutgers traveling to Nebraska with its perfect start.
Through the first 5 weeks of the season, the Scarlet Knights remain undefeated at 4-0. Greg Schiano’s 2nd rebuild of the Rutgers program has gone swimmingly this season, even as the team scraped together back-to-back 3-point wins over Virginia Tech and Washington.
On the other side, Matt Rhule had Nebraska off to a 3-0 start before experiencing its first setback of the season with a loss to Illinois. The Huskers followed that up with a win over Purdue but one that featured plenty of cause for concern.
So, who gets the edge for Week 6? Nebraska is the 6.5-point favorite at home per bet365, but the GameDay crew was decidedly split on the pick. Here’s how they see the showdown in Lincoln playing out:
Desmond Howard: Rutgers. “Too much Kyle Monangai… I love Rutgers in this game.”
Nick Saban: Rutgers. “I’m going with Rutgers, too. I think Greg Schiano just plays and has his team playing winning football and let’s see if they can take the defense on the road and play better on defense.”
Marshawn Lynch: Nebraska. “Oh that’s crazy because I have Nebraska,” said Lynch in response to Saban.
Pat McAfee: Rutgers. “Well that’s crazy because I’ve got Rutgers,” said McAfee in response to Lynch.
Kirk Herbstreit: Nebraska. “I’m going with Nebraska. I think Nebraska at home, winds up to 50 MPH, Nebraska’s defense is for real.”
