College GameDay was starting to create a tradition by going to the annual Army-Navy game every year. That’s not the case this season.
GameDay garnered its fair share of criticism from both fans and media alike because of the decision. Many fans were frustrated with GameDay because of the sacrifices that those who serve in the military make on a daily basis.
It’s pretty hard to argue not being on location for the game since there are no other games set to be played this weekend. This is also the last time that the game will be in Philadelphia for awhile. Next season, the game is going to be in Foxboro, Massachusetts.
Navy leads the all-time series 62-53 and won last year’s meeting as well. Army is 5-6 while Navy is 4-7 with both teams having a chance to earn some bragging rights. Kickoff is going to be at 3 p.m. ET on CBS.
Here are the reactions on social media to the news:
Good morning. Happy @CollegeGameDay Saturday.
Except, there’s no show today. What am I suppose to do for the next three hours? Come back soon, everyone! @ReceDavis @KirkHerbstreit @DesmondHoward @davidpollack47 @PeteThamel @jess_sims @PatMcAfeeShow @JenLada

Just found out @CollegeGameDay won’t be at #ArmyNavy tomorrow…this is so disappointing. I look forward to this telecast every year. I hope they reconsider next year. #BeatArmy

Is anyone else low-key bummed that @CollegeGameDay is skipping the Army-Navy game this year?
I know that neither team is very good, The Bear is leaving for FOX and Corso has had health issues this season, but it was becoming an annual tradition… pic.twitter.com/DgEtKuQM1H

Really low of @CollegeGameDay to skip out on #ArmyNavy. The cadets deserve better. @espn

@espn @CollegeGameDay should have been at Army-Navy today. It was becoming a tradition going there, the incredible stories, and pageantry. Plus, if Lee Corso is retiring, let him pick Billy the Goat of Navy, a team he coached one last time

@CollegeGameDay no GameDay today?! I always enjoy the coverage leading up to Army-Navy game, and Corso would likely put on the Goat head gear. Missing you guys, my Saturday has sad face now. GO NAVY!

@espn @CollegeGameDay congrats on being a sellout – not being at the Army -Navy game! Sad.. not getting the ratings? The money! It’s always money! What about the sacrifice of the armed forces! Pathetic! Lost a loyal fan! #ArmyNavyGame
