College suspends head coach after terrible postgame comments
A college football coach was recently suspended for his terrible choice of words in his recent postgame comments.
UMass announced Sunday evening that the school is suspending head coach Mark Whipple one week without pay following comments he made following a loss to Ohio. The university is also requiring Whipple to participate in sensitivity training provided by the university. UMass Athletics shared the announcement on Twitter.

What comment was it that got Whipple suspended? When addressing what he felt was a missed pass interference call in Saturday’s game, Whipple used the word “rape” to describe the events on the field. Jason Arkley with The Athens Messenger shared a transcription of Whipple’s comments:
I thought it was (pause) MAC got their revenge on us, officiating-wise — the worst I’ve ever been a part of. I’ve been in the SEC, I’ve been in the NFL and I’ve never seen anything so bad…We had a chance there with 16 down and they rape us, and he picks up the flag.
Whipple was clearly frustrated with the officiating in Saturday’s game, but there is no excusing his poor choice of words in venting his frustrations. In the announcement shared by UMass, Whipple did apologize for using the word in his comments, admitting he was “disappointed” with himself.
Hopefully Whipple will learn from this incident moving forward.
