It was determined that Hamlin went into cardiac arrest due to a rare occurrence called a commotio cordis. It is an abnormal heart rhythm that can cause someone to go into cardiac arrest after getting struck in the chest by an object during a heartbeat.
Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott commented on what the team’s plans are for Hamlin. They are leaving it up to Hamlin for when he wants to return to the facility.
“His health is first and foremost on our mind as far as this situation,” McDermott said. “And then when he feels ready, we will welcome him back.”
