Dan Lanning clarifies Rose Bowl absence for Evan Stewart
Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks are in Pasadena for a Rose Bowl matchup with the Ohio State Buckeyes. It’s a rematch between these teams, with the Ducks winning the first matchup back in October.
A key part of the team winning that first meeting was the play of Evan Stewart. Stewart caught 7 passes for 149 yards and 1 touchdown in the Ducks’ 32-31 victory. That was Stewart’s best performance of the season, so many wondered if this same could be expected in the rematch.
However, fans were confused when Stewart didn’t see the field in the 1st half. At halftime, Lanning explained that Stewart got “banged up” in warm-ups which is why he wasn’t on the field.
Dan Lanning told @Ianfitzespn on ESPN radio after halftime that star WR Evan Stewart got “banged up” during pre-game warm-ups. He didn’t play a snap in first half. Jordan James was being evaluated for a head injury in first half.

Without Stewart, the Ducks struggled in the 1st half. The team managed just 8 points and found themselves facing a 26-point deficit. At the end of the 3rd quarter, the leading receiver for the Ducks is Traeshon Holden who has 5 catches for 82 yards and 1 TD.
Stewart was a big get for the Ducks in the portal last offseason. The WR spent his first 2 seasons with Texas A&M, catching 91 passes for 1,163 yards with 6 TDs in 18 games. In 13 games with the Ducks, Stewart has caught 48 passes for 613 yards and 5 TDs.
Entering the 4th, the Ducks have a big hole to climb out of, trailing 41-15.
