Dan Lanning credits toughness, competitive spirit in Oregon's win over Wisconsin
Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks moved to 11-0 on the season on Saturday as they knocked Wisconsin off 16-13 in a tougher-than-expected game.
The Ducks offense was kept in check pretty much the entire game, but the team was able to make just enough plays to get the win. After the game, Lanning said it wasn’t pretty, but he was proud of how his team stayed together to get the win.
“We needed every second, we needed every moment, we needed the next play,” Lanning said. “Our guys fought for it, this was a tough battle. Credit to Wisconsin, they played a helluva game. But we had just enough in the end to make the difference.”
While the offense didn’t play to its normal standards, the defense continued its strong play this season. Wisconsin finished with just 226 total yards of offense, with only 96 of those through the air.
Lanning gave a ton of credit to that group, saying the defense did just enough to keep the team in the game.
“They’re resilient,” Lanning said. “There are different games where the other side of the ball has to put the team on their back. The defense put the team on their back tonight, they did just enough to give us that opportunity.”
The Ducks are 11-0 with just 1 game remaining in the regular season, and they will be off next week before hosting Washington in 2 weeks.
