Dan Lanning reveals simple mindset driving Oregon in Big Ten Championship
Dan Lanning understands the chaos that has overtaken college football at times this season. However, his Oregon team has (so far) been able to avoid a disastrous loss.
With a midseason win over Ohio State, Oregon quickly rose to the No. 1 spot in the country and has anchored that spot in the College Football Playoff rankings down the stretch. The only seriously close call late in the season came against Wisconsin, but the Ducks still came out on top in Madison.
Now, Oregon has a shot to reach 13-0 entering the Playoff with a Big Ten Championship victory over Penn State. Lanning even made a remote appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay to discuss what’s driving Oregon.
According to the head coach, it has not been hard for Oregon to maintain its focus as the No. 1 team in the country. Lanning went on to describe the simple mindset driving the Ducks:
“It hasn’t been hard because our focus has been really clear since the beginning. In fact, we don’t really care about the opinions of others,” explained Lanning. “We call you guys ‘the machine.’ Everything what you guys talk about has nothing to do with the result on the field.
“No offense, but we could care less what anyone else thinks. If you want to control results, go win.”
So far, Oregon has controlled its destiny all season long by simply winning every game. One more win in Indianapolis on Saturday night will clarify the Ducks’ path through the Playoff, but Lanning’s group will stay ready for whoever they play and whenever the game is scheduled.
