Death of a dynasty? Paul Finebaum says Clemson's run as elite program is over
Defending ACC champion Clemson is off to a rocky 2-2 start to the 2021 season. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum believes a three-game sample size is enough to conclude that Clemson will no longer be a dominant football team.
Clemson fell to Georgia 10-3 in Week 1, defeated South Carolina State 49-3 and Georgia Tech 14-8, and lost to NC State 27-21 in double overtime last week.
Finebaum is extremely critical of the attitude of Clemson coach Dabo Swinney.
“Dabo Swinney, for all of his charm, is a pretty lousy loser,” Finebaum said via the ESPN College Football Podcast. “Nobody wants to hear his wine, nobody really wants to hear him say whatever he says. He’s a good winner — well, he’s not even a good winner. But he’s a terrible loser.”
Clemson captured the national title in 2017 and 2019 and has reached the College Football Playoff every year since 2015.
Next up for Clemson is a home game vs. Boston College on Oct. 2 (7:30 p.m. EST/ACC Network).
