Deion Sanders makes history: CFB media, fans react to nation's No. 1 recruit signing with Jackson State
This early signing period just got even better. The No.1 overall recruit in the class of 2022 just flipped from Florida State to Jackson State.
As expected, people lost their minds on Twitter Wednesday morning. Hunter had been committed to the Seminoles since March of 2020. The talented corner had drawn comparisons to NFL Hall of Fame cornerback Charles Woodson.
Hunter is a 5-star defensive back from Collins Hill High School in Suwanee, Georgia. Also a wideout for his high school, he comes in at 6-foot-1, 165 pounds. He is also the best-ranked player at his position, and in his state per the 247Sports Composite.
Hunter had all of the top Power 5 programs looking to gain his commitment. Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia were all interested in Hunter to name a few. This has to be up there for one of the best early signing period moments of all time as Deion Sanders has flipped the nation’s No. 1 recruit from his alma mater.
Here is just some of the reaction to Hunter’s commitment:
I’m sorry but Deion flipping the No. 1 overall recruit from FSU, who just gave Mike Norvell an extension for going 5-7, is absolutely hilarious

Nation's #1 recruit Travis Hunter appears to be decommitting from Florida State
Per @SWiltfong247 there is serious momentum to FCS Jackson State (Deion Sanders head coach)
#1 Recruit going to the FCS would be unprecedented Recruiting History

Deion Sanders flipping Travis Hunter, the nation's No. 1 recruit (and a CB no less) from his alma mater, FSU to join him at an HBCU, Jackson State would unquestionably become the biggest signing day stunner in my 20-plus years of covering this stuff.

If Travis Hunter goes to Jackson State it will be the biggest surprise in the modern recruiting era.

Jackson Great University…. Don’t ever forget it
— Deion Sanders Jr (@DeionSandersJr) December 15, 2021
considering hunter would probably go with deion wherever he went? i'd say so.
i've been — and still am — skeptical of deion, but pulling this off would change everything (for him, at least). https://t.co/ePo2p7l8in

If Deion Sanders flips Travis Hunter to Jackson State, does he immediately become a legitimate Power 5 coaching candidate?
— Ari Wasserman (@AriWasserman) December 15, 2021
If Arkansas or TCU had taken Deion Sanders seriously and hired him, would he secure top 5 recruiting classes on the regular at either of those schools?
I think so, and today he's proving it. Deion will be a Power Five head coach this time next year.

Jackson State coach Deion Sanders flipped the nation's No. 1 overall recruit Travis Hunter to JSU–from Sanders' alma mater, Florida State.
A historic in the modern recruiting age for HBCU football and one of the biggest stories in recruiting history. Turn up, JSU Tigers.

Deion Sanders will reportedly land Rivals' No. 1 overall prospect at JSU.
Deion to @SINow last fall: “If a kid is good enough for a Power 5 school, why isn’t he good enough for us? I don’t know where we started thinking HBCUs are beneath us as a people.”https://t.co/cVEQZfadP1

Remember when people tried to say NIL would make recruiting even more tilted in the traditional powers favor?
Here is as big of an example as possible that those of us on the other side were right. NIL will create more parity in college football and recruiting than ever. https://t.co/d16HWAYTOr
