Dillon Gabriel, Abdul Carter headline AP's All-Big Ten honors
Dillon Gabriel and Abdul Carter produced magnificent seasons for Oregon and Penn State, respectively, and they both faced off in the Big Ten Championship as a result. Now, the two players are adding to their postseason hardware ahead of the College Football Playoff.
On Tuesday, the AP released its complete All-Big Ten honors for the 2024 season. Gabriel and Carter took the top honors as the conference’s Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year recipients while Indiana‘s Curt Cignetti was named the B1G Coach of the Year.
Among the first-team honorees, Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson and Penn State tight end Tyler Warren were unanimous selections from the 21-member panel. Overall, Iowa produced 5 first-team players, Ohio State produced 4 and Oregon and Indiana each produced 3 first-team players.
Minnesota offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery, Ohio State guard Donovan Jackson and Iowa linebacker Jay Higgins were repeat first-team selections. Ohio State freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith is the Big Ten Newcomer of the Year in addition to being a first-team layer.
