Dillon Gabriel makes FBS record 63rd start in Rose Bowl vs. Ohio State
Dillon Gabriel has been a dynamic quarterback for 3 different colleges. The QB started at UCF, where he played 3 seasons, before transferring to Oklahoma ahead of the 2022 season.
After 2023, Gabriel transferred to Oregon, and the QB has the Ducks undefeated and in the College Football Playoff. In the Ducks’ Wednesday game against Ohio State, Gabriel set an FBS record by making his 63rd start.

Gabriel previously set the FBS record for starts by a QB in the Big Ten Championship Game against Penn State in December. That game was Gabriel’s 62nd career start, which broke Bo Nix’s previous record of 61 starts.
In Gabriel’s career, the QB has thrown for 18,423 yards with 153 TDs and 32 INTs. For the Ducks in 2024, Gabriel has 3,558 yards with 28 TDs and 6 INTs. The veteran QB finished 3rd in the 2024 Heisman voting behind Travis Hunter and Ashton Jeanty.
If Gabriel wants to make more starts, he must pick up his game against Ohio State. Halfway through the 2nd quarter, Gabriel’s Ducks find themselves in a 31-0 hole. So far, Gabriel is 9 of 14 for 54 yards. The Ducks have mustered just 64 total yards of offense so far and the usually stout defense had done nothing to stop Ohio State’s offense.
The Buckeyes, meanwhile, have 347 total yards of offense before the half and Will Howard already has 3 TD passes. It’ll take a massive comeback for the Ducks to stay alive and advance to the Cotton Bowl against Texas.
