Division III conference suspending all fall sports
A Division III conference has taken the step to suspend all fall sports due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Tuesday, the Centennial Conference announced that intercollegiate athletics for the fall have been suspended for the time being. The school presidents within the conference feel that is the best decision at this time in an effort to protect the health and safety of student-athletes.

“The presidents will reevaluate this decision by the end of September, based on work to be done by the Conference to assess sports-specific activities and the experiences on the schools’ campuses,” the statement said. “The presidents have determined football will not be played in the fall. The Conference will also explore the possibility of shifting certain fall sports, including football, to the spring.”
While Division III is in a much different category than the FBS ranks, but it’s a small domino that could lead to other conferences and levels of college athletics to take similar paths, or at least explore other options.
Wednesday, the Ivy League will determine whether or not it will continue with a fall sports schedule or postpone certain sports until spring.
