Division III program makes history with 50th straight loss Saturday
A Division III football program is in the record books. But it wasn’t exactly the kind of record a team hopes to earn.
Earlham College, a Division III program located in Richmond, Indiana, lost its 50th straight game on Saturday, falling 63-0 to Anderson. The Quakers are now 0-6 on the season.
The team’s last win came on Oct. 26, 2013 when it defeated Anderson 21-20. That year, the Quakers finished 2-8, also beating Kenyon College. Basically, it’s been five years since Earlham last won a football game.
The 50-game losing streak ties the NCAA Division III record, previously set by Macalaster College from 1974-1980. The longest overall losing streak in college football is 80 losses, which is owned by Prairie View A&M, who went winless from 1989-1998.
Earlham hasn’t just suffered losses, it’s been walloped in most of those games. This season alone, the Quakers have been outscored 404-39. They also surrendered a season-high 83 points in a 66-point loss to Hanover College earlier this year.
Earlham is a member of the Hoosier Collegiate Athletic Conference.
