Entering Week 12 at No. 3 on the College Football Playoff Rankings, the path for Oregon ahead was pretty clear: win out and head to the CFP. Unfortunately, Utah had other ideas.

On Saturday night, the Utes rolled to an incredible 38-7 win over the Ducks in Salt Lake City. It was Utah’s 3rd all-time win over a top-5 team.

At the end of the day, the game swung with the last 5 minutes to go before halftime. Utah made it 14-0 with 5 minutes left in the half and mounted another drive that took just over a minute and a half off the clock.

Then, instead of letting the clock wind down, Utah forced Oregon to punt after failing to get a first down with 11 seconds remaining. That punt return was returned all the way for a touchdown heading to halftime with a 28-0 lead in hand.

Oregon never had a response ready after that 21-point second quarter. The Ducks managed one lone 3rd-quarter touchdown while getting held to 294 total yards of offense. That includes just 63 yards on the ground.

Now, the Ducks will have to wonder what could have been when it comes to the Playoff. On the other hand, Cincinnati might just find its way into the CFP field with the Ducks being eliminated.
