The former top prospect of the 2022 recruiting class is in the transfer portal and is hearing from a lot of programs, including two schools out of the B1G.

Emoni Bates was a longtime commit to Michigan State as a part of the 2022 recruiting class. The 5-star prospect eventually decommitted, reclassified to 2021 and wound up at Memphis as a 17-year-old freshman.

Bates appeared in 18 games and dealt with some injuries during the 2021-22 season. He averaged 9.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists.

Now, Bates is in the transfer portal and is drawing lots of interest. According to Joe Tipton with On3 Sports, Bates has already heard from double-digit programs.

That list includes Illinois and Michigan out of the B1G. Michigan State was not included. Investigating the NBA is also expected to be an option for Bates.

While his freshman season was not without some struggles, Bates remains an ultra-talented 6-foot-9 win with a lot of upside.
