Posting a 13-0 (8-0 Big 12) record, which included a victory over then-No. 4 Ohio State in Columbus, the Texas Longhorns captured the 2005 BCS National Championship, finalized by a thrilling 41-38 victory over USC in the Rose Bowl.
Propelled by standout quarterback Vince Young and safety Michael Huff, the Longhorns’ defeat of the Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush and LenDale White-led Trojans stands out among many college football fans as one of the best games of the 21st Century.
Now more than 15 years removed from that magical night in Pasadena, California, ESPN has produced a three-part documentary on Mack Brown’s 2005 squad, set to debut August 30 on the Longhorn Network.
A legendary player. A legendary team. A legendary title win.

Texas’ 2005 title was the fourth in program history and the only of Brown’s 16-season run at the helm.
Immediately following this triumph, the Longhorns continued to be among the nation’s elite, winning at least 10 games in each season from 2006-2009.
Since then, however, the storied program has slipped a bit, only reaching double-digit wins once in the last 11 seasons and bouncing between three head coaches in Brown, Charlie Strong and Tom Herman.
There is optimism for the program moving forward, as Texas hired Alabama offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Steve Sarkisian – one of the sport’s best play-callers – to succeed Herman.
Sarkisian’s first game on the Longhorn sideline will be a ranked matchup, as No. 21 Texas hosts the No. 23 Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns on September 4 at 4:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
