ESPN includes B1G in latest FPI rankings, 8 teams crack Top 25
With the B1G announcing it will be reinstating its fall football season this year, the conference’s teams have been included in the latest Football Power Index (FPI) rankings from ESPN. And there are quite a few in the top 25.
Each week, ESPN updates its FPI top 25 following the previous weekend’s games. Although the B1G will not play a game for a month, eight of the league’s 14 teams were listed inside the top 25. Not too shabby, considering it’ll soon be 10 months since teams have been on the field.
Surprisingly, Ohio State is in the No. 1 spot, edging out Alabama (No. 2) and Clemson (No. 3). The Tigers are the only team to have played any games to this point, starting the year 2-0 with wins over Wake Forest and The Citadel.
Alabama starts play on Saturday, Sept. 26 with the rest of the SEC.
Here’s how ESPN’s FPI Top 25 looks with the B1G included again:
- No. 1: Ohio State
- No. 4: Wisconsin
- No. 6: Penn State
- No. 15: Michigan
- No. 18: Indiana
- No. 19: Northwestern
- No. 20: Iowa
- No. 23: Minnesota
Here’s where the other six B1G teams ranked:
- No. 30: Nebraska
- No. 47: Purdue
- No. 48: Illinois
- No. 58: Michigan State
- No. 64: Rutgers
- No. 71: Maryland
