There’s no denying the Big 10 East division is incredibly deep, and ESPN recently ranked it the second-toughest division out of all the Power 5 divisions.

With Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, and Penn State, the East division has plenty of firepower from top-to-bottom. Throw in Indiana and Maryland, two teams with the ability to score enough points to pull off an upset, and it makes for a dangerous division to play in.

According to Tom VanHaaren, it is dangerous enough to potentially challenge the SEC West as the toughest division in football. While the SEC West will still pull down plenty of headlines, thanks to Alabama, Auburn, and LSU, the Big 10 East is not far behind with talented teams returning a lot of players:

The Big Ten East was the biggest challenger to the SEC West in these rankings, and many would argue this division will end up being the best when the season finishes. Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan all fielded young teams in 2017 and are returning an astounding number of starters on offense and defense.

While there is a lot of depth to the Big 10 East, VanHaaren was not as high on the West division. The West came in at No. 8 out of the 9 divisions in the Power 5. He sees Wisconsin as the likely team to beat this season with other teams on the rise for the future:

But in terms of a national presence, there likely won’t be many other teams outside of Wisconsin…This division boasts a lot of promise and young coaches, but the potential hasn’t been realized just yet.

Who do you think comes out on top in the B1G Championship Game this season?
