ESPN has updated its preseason Football Power Index (FPI) rankings as the 2019 college football season continues to creep closer. There’s plenty of reason to debate, too.

The good thing about ESPN’s FPI is that it ranks every FBS program from No. 1 to No. 130. That gives fans an idea of where their program ranks among the entire landscape, as opposed to just the top 25.

Having said that, Five B1G teams made the FPI top 25 with just over a month until the start of the season. There was only one conference squad — Michigan — which made the top 10, though.

Here’s a look at the five B1G teams ranked in the top 25, per ESPN’s FPI:

  • No. 5: Michigan
  • No. 12: Penn State
  • No. 13: Ohio State
  • No. 14: Michigan State
  • No. 23: Iowa

Four of those teams come out of the B1G East, and Iowa is the lone B1G West to squeak into the top 25. If those rankings reflect the type of season we’ll see in the East Division, it should be a fun race through most of the year.

Here’s where ESPN’s FPI ranks the rest of the B1G:

  • No. 28: Minnesota
  • No. 31: Nebraska
  • No. 38: Wisconsin
  • No. 47: Indiana
  • No. 52: Northwestern
  • No. 62: Purdue
  • No. 68: Maryland
  • No. 79: Illinois
  • No. 92 Rutgers
