ESPN updates weekly FPI rankings, 6 B1G listed in Top 25
ESPN’s Football Power Index may need a new formula.
On Sunday, the FPI was updated following the latest weekend in college football. Six teams from the B1G were included in the Top 25, but there are some really peculiar placements for teams in the league.
Ohio State leads the way at No. 2 for the conference after a 52-12 win over Michigan State to improve to 5-0. That makes sense. But just two spots back sits Wisconsin, listed as the No. 4 team in the country per the FPI.
The Badgers dropped a 14-6 decision to Indiana on Saturday, which is at No. 11 with a 6-1 record. Penn State, despite its 2-5 record, is also in the Top 25, coming in at No. 22 this week.
Strange, right? Here’s the complete Top 25 this week:
- Alabama
- Ohio State
- Clemson
- Wisconsin
- Oklahoma
- Georgia
- Florida
- Notre Dame
- Texas
- Texas A&M
- Indiana
- Iowa State
- Iowa
- Cincinnati
- BYU
- Oregon
- UCF
- USC
- Auburn
- Miami
- Northwestern
- Penn State
- Oklahoma State
- UCLA
- TCU
Because the FPI ranks every team at the FBS level, all B1G squads have a ranking. Here’s a look at where the remaining eight teams fell on Sunday:
- No. 48: Nebraska
- No. 49: Michigan
- No. 56: Purdue
- No. 60: Minnesota
- No. 68: Rutgers
- No. 72: Illinois
- No. 77: Maryland
- No. 84: Michigan State
