ESPN's David Pollack says Mac Jones has 'better tape' than Justin Fields, Trevor Lawrence
This year’s NFL Draft is loaded at the quarterback position. With so many talented passers declaring after the 2020 season, it’s created quite the conversation leading up to the premier offseason event.
Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence has long been regarded as the top overall player at the position and in this year’s class. He’s expected to go No. 1 overall to the Jacksonville Jaguars when the draft kicks off on Thursday night. After that, there’s been a lot of conversations about Ohio State’s Justin Fields, BYU’s Zach Wilson, Alabama’s Mac Jones and North Dakota State’s Trey Lance.
Who is the best of that group? ESPN’s David Pollack says that Jones has the best tape of any of those other quarterbacks. Yes, including Lawrence. The college football analyst understands the criticism of the Crimson Tide QB, but says Jones is still a star.

“I get it, he’s not dynamic. He’s not gonna wow you in shorts. He’s not gonna wow you at his pro day. But, dude, just go turn on his tape,” Pollack said. “His tape is better than Justin Fields. His tape is better than Zach Wilson. His tape is better than Trey Lance. His tape is better than Trevor Lawrence.
“The dude puts it on the money, bro. He could have the best supporting cast ever, he makes great decisions, on time. Is he gonna wow you in shorts at a pro day? No. Turn on the dude’s tape and he plays great football. …He’s not a scrub, the dude can play.”
Recently, the San Francisco have been rumored to have major interest in Jones at the No. 3 pick in the draft. We’ll see if that comes to fruition on Thursday night.
"His tape is better than Justin Fields! His tape is better than Zach Wilson, his tape is better than Trey Lance, his tape is better than Trevor Lawrence! … I don't get the slander of, 'How could he possibly go No. 3?' He's not a scrub, the dude can play, man."
