ESPN's FPI predicts a tight matchup between Maryland-Michigan State
ESPN’s Football Power Index has released the predictions for Week 4, including the Maryland-Michigan State game. If FPI is any indication, this could be one of the tightest games of the weekend.
FPI gives the Terrapins a slight edge, with a 53.5% chance to win the game. This means the Spartans are at 46.5%, essentially indicating an even matchup.
The Terrapins are off to a fast 3-0 start with wins over Towson, Charlotte, and Virginia. The Terps’ smallest margin of victory this season was 18 points, against the 49ers in Week 2.
The Spartans got off to a 2-0 start but got walloped in Week 3 against the Washington Huskies, 41-7.
The Terps seem to have all the advantages for this game. The Michigan State secondary is allowing 250 passing yards per game, while the Terps are averaging 304 per game. The Terps are also averaging 175 yards per game on the ground, meaning this offense may just be too much for the Spartans to handle.
One negative for the Terps is the game’s location. The Terps have not won a game in East Lansing since 1950. The Spartans came out victorious at home over the Terps in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2021.
Michigan State is a 7.5-point underdog in this contest. Fans hoping to get in on that action can use our special Michigan sports betting promo code.
The game will kick off on Saturday at 3:30 Eastern.
