ESPN's FPI predicts B1G East champion in 2022
ESPN’s FPI is putting out predictions for the 2022 season of college football. In the B1G, the conference is expected to have two interesting divisional races to the conference championship game.
The race to Indianapolis will get started right away with a B1G West contest in Week 0 and a crossover contest between Penn State and Purdue following in Week 1. When it comes to the east division, the Football Power Index sees a 4-team race.
According to the system, only 4 teams are given more than a 1% shot of winning the title with Ohio State coming away as the heavy favorite. The Buckeyes are given nearly an 80% chance of winning the B1G East for 2022.
Michigan was the only other team to receive more than a 10% chance in the division after capturing the B1G title last season. Penn State and Michigan State are long shots while Maryland, Rutgers and Indiana all have less than a 1% chance to win the division.
Here are the top 4 teams in the east according to the FPI:
- Ohio State – 79.5%
- Michigan – 11.2%
- Penn State – 5%
- Michigan State – 3.8%
Ohio State is looking for some revenge in 2022 after missing out on Indy and losing to Michigan. We’ll see if Ryan Day’s squad can rebound, or if another team pulls off an upset run through the east.
