ESPN’s FPI predicts battle for Land-Grant Trophy in Week 13

ESPN’s FPI is predicting the full action of Rivalry Weekend. In the B1G, that includes a Penn State vs. Michigan State battle for the Land-Grant Trophy.
The trophy is an iconic one, to say the least, with a very unique nature to the trophy’s appearance. The series has also been a good one in recent history.
In 2021, Michigan State captured the win during a snowy 30-27 finish in East Lansing. That win snapped back-to-back wins by the Nittany Lions.
The Spartans lead the all-time series 18-17-1. However, this year’s game features two teams heading in opposite directions.
James Franklin’s squad has rebounded from some lackluster years with a 9-2 regular-season record. The Nittany Lions will go for win No. 10 on Saturday.
For Mel Tucker, the Spartans have crashed back down to earth a bit after 11 wins and a Peach Bowl last season. Michigan State is 5-6 and likely needs a win — in upset fashion — Saturday to reach the postseason.
According to ESPN’s FPI, the Nittany Lions are the big favorites in this one. The FPI is giving Penn State an 88.2% chance of getting the win and improving to 10-2 on the regular season.
Will that prediction hold up on Saturday? Kickoff is set for 4 pm EST on FS1.
