ESPN’s FPI predicts outcome of Iowa-Purdue season opener

Iowa and Purdue are gearing up to start the 2020 season in a game that features some interesting storylines.
For the Boilermakers, head coach Jeff Brohm will be sidelined and isolated after testing positive for COVID-19. Brian Brohm has assumed the acting head coaching role for the game, though Purdue has petitioned to allow Jeff Brohm phone contact with the coaching box.
Regardless of what happens on the Purdue side of the ball, Iowa will be breaking in a new quarterback now that Nate Stanley is off to the NFL. Thankfully, the Hawkeyes return their leading rushers and a number of playmakers to help ease the pressure.
Heading into the game, Iowa is expected to be a three-point favorite, and ESPN’s Football Power Index appears to agree with that line. According to the FPI, the Hawkeyes are given a 64.1% chance of coming away with the win to start the season.
Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3:30 pm EST on BTN.
