ESPN’s FPI is predicting every game on the college football schedule, and the odds for Week 1 games are out heading into game week.

In the B1G, that includes a season-opening crossover matchup between Penn State and Purdue. Those two sides will face off with a Blackout set for Thursday’s matchup in West Lafayette.

The most recent meeting between the two teams came in 2019, a 35-7 route for the Nittany Lions in Happy Valley. Penn State is also riding a 9-game winning streak in the series and is 15-3-1 all-time against the Boilermakers.

Heading into the Thursday night opener, the Football Power Index is once again favoring the Nittany Lions to take down Purdue. According to the FPI, Penn State is given a 60.2% chance of getting the win and the Boilermakers heading to an 0-1 record to begin the season.

Heading into the game, Penn State figures to be a narrow favorite, even on the road in West Lafayette. While the Nittany Lions may be favored, many teams can admit getting a win as a road favorite in Ross-Ade Stadium is not an enviable task.

We’ll see if Penn State can pull off the road win to open 2022. Kickoff for Thursday’s game is set for 8 pm ET on FOX.
