ESPN’s FPI has been making predictions all throughout the 2024 college football season, and that hasn’t changed as the College Football Playoff got underway this weekend.

The predictions will continue into the CFP quarterfinals as No. 8 Ohio State will be taking on No. 1 Oregon after the 42-17 win against Tennessee on Saturday.

Even though Oregon is the higher seed in the CFP and has already has a win against Ohio State, it is the Buckeyes that are being looked at as the team that is expected to win. ESPN’s FPI is giving the Buckeyes just under a 54% chance to win this game, leaving the Ducks with only a 46.3% chance.

The quarterfinal matchup will take place on New Year’s Day at 5 p.m. ET on ESPN in Los Angeles.

The Buckeyes were still reeling from the loss to Michigan to end the regular season, but the team responded in a big way with a dominating win against Tennessee. Quarterback Will Howard was 24-of-29 with 311 yards and 2 touchdowns, with both of those scores going to wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

The Ducks have been off since the win in the B1G Championship Game against Penn State, and they enter this game as the only undefeated team in the CFP.
