ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index) has updated the projection of the B1G West Champion after Week 9 of the season.

No. 14 Illinois is projected to win the B1G West division after Week 9 at 66.2%, according to ESPN’s FPI. Illinois is coming off a 26-9 road win over Nebraska as the Fighting Illini proceed to an overall record of 7-1 with a 4-1 record in B1G play.

Illinois will take on Michigan State (3-5; 1-4), who are at the bottom of the East division in Week 10.

Purdue (5-3; 3-2) is the team with the next best odds to win the West at 30.7%. The Boilermakers are coming off a 35-24 road loss to Wisconsin in Week 9. Purdue will take on Iowa (4-4; 2-3) in Week 10 before a key Week 11 road matchup versus Illinois for the potential decider of the West.

Wisconsin (4-4; 2-3) is the team with the third-best odds to win the West at 1.9%. The Badgers have won 2 of the last 3 B1G games.

Illinois will have quite the hurdle in front of them if they are to aim for the B1G Championship. The Illini, should they win, would have to outlast one of Michigan or Ohio State for the title. Full odds can be found here.
