ESPN's FPI updates odds to win B1G title following Week 5
ESPN’s FPI is predicting the outcome of the B1G race in 2022, and the updated odds shed some light on the conference picture after a wild week of results.
At the top of the standings, Ohio State and Michigan recorded convincing victories over Rutgers and Iowa, respectively. The Buckeyes drilled the Scarlet Knights at home while the Wolverines went on the road and put up a convincing effort in a Kinnick Stadium win.
Penn State – a fellow undefeated – was less convincing but held on for a tighter than expected victory over Northwestern during a rain-soaked afternoon. Minnesota saw its undefeated season come to an end with an upset loss during homecoming.
Coming out of the weekend, ESPN’s Football Power Index has updated the odds to win the B1G, and Ohio State and Michigan are still heavy favorites. They are the only two teams north of 10% on the system.
Minnesota – despite the loss to Purdue – is third in the odds and is the top West team included. Purdue and Illinois also made the top 6 in odds to win the conference, though both programs are given less than 5% odds to win the title.
James Franklin’s Penn State squad is the other team included:
- Ohio State – 61%
- Michigan – 17.7%
- Minnesota – 8.4%
- Penn State – 4.6%
- Purdue – 4.5%
- Illinois – 1.8%
