There’s a common belief that the 2021 NFL Draft class is loaded at the quarterback position. With so many rising stars at the position, it’s one of the more intriguing areas with this year’s class.
With another week of college football in the books, ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. went through and ranked the top five prospects at the quarterback spot. Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields still occupy the top two spots, as both are considered to be the premier prospects of the draft.
Lawrence is currently list at the top spot according to Kiper, but that’s likely because the Tigers have played three games already. In those three contests, Lawrence has looked solid, throwing for 848 yards with 7 touchdowns and no interceptions while completing passes at a 73.3% clip.
He’s also accounted for 3 rushing touchdowns.
Fields and the Buckeyes won’t take the field until Oct. 24, when they open the season at home against Nebraska. Fields is coming off a Heisman finalist campaign in 2019, where he accounted for 51 total touchdowns in Ohio State’s 13-1 season.
Kiper’s top five QBs currently:
- Trevor Lawrence, Clemson
- Justin Fields, Ohio State
- Trey Lance, North Dakota State
- Kyle Trask, Florida
- Zach Wilson, BYU
