The 63-year-old Edsall is in his second stint at the helm of the Huskies, previously guiding the program from 1999-2010, with a five-year tenure at Maryland between his two stops in East Hartford.
Taking the program from the Atlantic 10 to a Division I-A Independent to the Big East, his first stint at UConn was successful, finishing with a 74-70 record and six bowl game appearances.
Edsall’s second time around, however, has not gone nearly as well, as the Huskies are 6-32 since 2017. A member of the American Athletic Conference through 2019, UConn is currently in their first season as an FBS Independent after opting out of the 2020 campaign amid COVID-19 concerns.
UConn will battle Purdue on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports Network, with a trip to West Point to square off with Army following that on September 18.
