Feast your eyes on the ultimate Penn State tailgate ride: Ladder 409
Most people can tell greatness when they see it. Immortality though? Well, that’s obvious the second you lay eyes on it.
Like the time Vince Young led Texas to a last-second win over USC. That was a moment that will live on forever. Let’s go back a bit further. How about the time the band was on the field during Cal-Stanford.
These are moments and events that last forever in the minds of college football fans.

This moment will be one of those as well, especially for Penn State fans.
It’s the moment you lay eyes on Ladder 409, a former firetruck that was part of the Greensboro North Carolina Fire Department. It was used to put out fires and save lives when it went into commission in 1995 Now it’s used to bask in tailgate glory ahead of Penn State football games. Don’t believe it?
Check out this video from Marty Smith of ESPN, who highlights the truck in all of its glory.
Ladder 409.
1995 firetruck purchased from the Greensboro NC fire dept., converted into ultimate tailgate ride. It has liquor/mixer taps, two 50-in TVs, pullout grill. Amazing! pic.twitter.com/tLt6QjurSU— Marty Smith (@MartySmithESPN) September 29, 2018
As Smith points out, this thing is the ultimate tailgate machine.
It has taps, two huge televisions for watching college football and even a grill. Throw in the awnings for a shady experience while eating your brats and drinking your beer and it’s hard to imagine a greater tailgating contraption.
Ladder 409 went from saving lives to making lives.
