Final College Football Playoff Rankings 2024: B1G lands 4 teams in final 12-team bracket
The Final College Football Playoff Rankings for the 2024 season — and the rankings that will shape the first-ever 12-team bracket — are officially out!
After a wild and semi-chaotic Championship Weekend, teams and fans now know who will be duking it out to play for the national championship in a college football season like never before. Some of the rankings and seedings were expected.
For starters, Oregon — as the only undefeated team in FBS and a Big Ten Champion — grabs the No. 1 overall ranking and seed. The Ducks beat Penn State 45-37 Saturday night for Lanning’s first championship as a head coach during their first year in the conference.
Georgia, as the SEC Champion with a 2nd win over Texas, is the No. 2 overall team and seed. Boise State and Arizona State at No. 9 and No. 12, respectively in the overall rankings, round out the first-round byes and the top 4 overall seeds.
In the rest of the top 8, the B1G placed Penn State (No. 4) and Ohio State (No. 6) as teams who will host a first-round Playoff game across Dec. 19-20. Indiana was also safely into the final field but will travel for the first round as the No. 8 overall team in the rankings.
The major discussion heading into Sunday centered around the final spot in the Playoff with an expectation that the spot would come down to SMU, who lost the ACC’s automatic bid to Clemson, and Alabama. In the end, it will be SMU taking the final spot.
