The first Power 5 football game is finally upon us. Though 10 college football games have already been completed, none of those contests have featured a team from three major leagues left standing this fall.
That changes on Thursday night, as Miami (FL) is scheduled to host UAB at 8 p.m. ET on ACC Network. It’s the appetizer to a buffet filled with Power 5 football this weekend, as teams from both the ACC and Big 12 kick their seasons off on Saturday.
Miami opens the season as a 14.5-point favorite against UAB, though the Blazers are already one game into their 2020 season. Last Thursday, UAB held off FCS opponent Central Arkansas for a 45-35 victory in Birmingham. It should be interesting to see if the Blazers’ lone contest provides an advantage against the Hurricanes on Thursday night.
Head coach Manny Diaz enters his second season as the head coach of the Hurricanes. Last year, Miami finished with a 6-7 record, which included a 4-4 mark in ACC play. Miami fell to Louisiana Tech 14-0 in the Independence Bowl.
Big things are expected of Miami this year, with quarterback D’Eriq King transferring in from Houston and winning the starting job. King is considered one of contenders for the Heisman Trophy.
