Big Ten ref Jerry McGinn recently went on the “On The Bench” podcast with Mike Hall and covered a myriad of topics.
One item discussed was the best players McGinn has officiated during his career. Hall’s episode with McGinn went live earlier this week and he started out by bringing up Ezekiel Elliott as one of the best players he had the chance officiate.
“Zeke Elliott, he was a beast,” McGinn said. “He would just pound the ball, pound the ball and then break it loose. He was amazing.”
He then pivoted to former Penn State star Saquon Barkley.
“Then you have (Saquon) Barkley who is with the Giants right now,” he said. “He could just jump over people out of nowhere. Defenders would come up to tackle him and they’d be standing on their feet and he’s jumping over their heads. Just amazing.”
Finally, McGinn touched on Nick and Joey Bosa and their time with the Buckeyes.
“The Bosa brothers from Ohio State. Those two were some pretty mean players. They could bring it,” he said.
McGinn’s full answer on this topic is at the 32:52 mark of the podcast.
