The potential news of B1G expansion took a backseat to news of an alliance coming with the ACC and Pac-12, but talks about the conference adding more teams has resurfaced. Former Pitt head coach and current college football analyst revealed some things he’s heard recently.

Appearing on 670 The Score’s Mully & Haugh, Wannstedt said that he recently attended the FOX meetings in Phoenix. While at that event, he said he’s hearing the Big 12 will continue to dissolve and the B1G will be adding two new schools in the future.

“It sounds like the Big 12…it sounds like Oklahoma State and Kansas State are going to the Pac-12. So that’s done. It sounds like West Virginia is going to end up in the ACC, which would make sense with Virginia, Pitt and everybody there,” Wannstedt said. “And it sounds like Iowa State and Kansas are going to join the B1G. So, there will be a few schools — the Texas Techs and TCUs — that no one knows what they’re going to do.”

Kansas was rumored to be a potential candidate for the B1G add when Texas and Oklahoma first departed the Big 12 for the SEC. While there was a lot of noise shortly after that move, things had quieted down.

Tuesday, the B1G, ACC and Pac-12 are announcing an alliance that the three leagues hope will result in scheduling advantages, a louder voice in the College Football Playoff conversation and trying to create more lucrative television deals.

Right now, no conference other than the SEC has discussed potential expansion publicly.
