FOX analyst Joel Klatt has made his pick for the Big Ten West, and it’s a bit of an upset.

“I’m bullish on Minnesota to be honest with you, just because Wisconsin is losing a lot,” Klatt said on the Big Network Thursday morning. “Jonathan Taylor was one of the top two running backs in the country for the last three years. You don’t just replace that.

“You’re also losing an All-American center. You’re losing your only threat on the outside in Quintez Cephus. The linebacker core, we’ll see. These are all core areas for the success of Wisconsin historically.”

Klatt also said he’s high on a Gophers squad that returns its quarterback from a team that won 11 games a season ago.

“What do I know? Minnesota has a good offensive line, their quarterback is back. They’ve got a terrific wide receiver who opts back in and they just won 11 games,” Klatt said. “I’m bullish on Minnesota and I know that I might be eating those words because how many times do we sit here and maybe underrate a Wisconsin program that just continues to win? But on paper right now, Minnesota has the team to beat in the West at least in my estimation.”

These two teams will meet in Madison on Nov. 28 in a matchup that could decide who represents the West in the Big Ten title game.
