It may be a bit too early to start thinking about Heisman Trophy candidates, but preseason lists make their way out there, so why not after Week 4?

FOX Sports’ Stewart Mandel posted his top-five candidates this morning and two of the five come from the Big Ten.

1. Lamar Jackson, QB Louisville

2. Christian McCaffrey, RB Stanford

3. J.T. Barrett, QB Ohio State

“While he was off Saturday, Barrett through three games ranked fifth nationally in pass efficiency, boasted a 10-to-1 TD-to-INT ratio and also rushed for an additional three touchdowns,” Mandel said.

4. Donnel Pumphrey, RB San Diego State

5. Jabrill Peppers, LB/S Michigan

“Mr. Do It All almost broke another punt return to the house against Penn State, dashing 53 yards,” Mandel said. “He remains one of the national leaders. He had a quieter game on defense Saturday.”

As long as Ohio State and Michigan keep winning, both Barrett and Peppers will inevitably be in the discussion. The two top-five teams should be favored in all of their remaining games until they face each other at the end of the year when the Wolverines travel to face the Buckeyes on Nov. 26.

The two won’t have an easy ride, however, as Michigan gets Wisconsin at home while facing Michigan State and Iowa on the road before taking on the Buckeyes. As for Ohio State, the Buckeyes get Wisconsin and Michigan State on the road before facing Peppers’ Wolverines.
