The rankings are in. The analysts with FOX Sports’ Big Noon Kickoff have revealed their top five coaches in college football right now.

It’s hard to debate that Alabama’s Nick Saban and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney belong in the top two spots right now. Both coaches have led their teams to five College Football Playoff appearances in the six years of its existence, a feat unmatched by any other head coach.

But who else belongs on the list? That’s where things get interesting. There are several other quality candidates who you could make an argument for, but the names in spots No. 3 through No. 5 all appeared in last year’s Playoff.

Below is the list:

  1. Nick Saban, Alabama
  2. Dabo Swinney, Clemson
  3. Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma
  4. Ed Orgeron, LSU
  5. Ryan Day, Ohio State

Day might be the surprise on this list — even at No. 5. It’s not that Day isn’t a great coach — he led Ohio State to a 13-1 record last season as a first-year coach — but he does lack experience. Whether or not he can back it up in his second season will be a big factor in whether he’s considered one of the top five coaches in the sport moving forward.
