Goodbye, Gator: Florida DB ejected on first drive of SEC season after vicious targeting hit on Ole Miss WR
Florida defensive back Shawn Davis didn’t last very long in the season opener against Ole Miss.
On the first drive of the game, Ole Miss was facing a 2nd-and-12 and Rebels quarterback Matt Corral attempted to find Dontario Drummond down the field for a first down pass. The throw fell incomplete, but Davis came in at the end of the play and delivered a vicious hit to Drummond’s helmet.

That play drew a 15-yard penalty flag for targeting. After the officials reviewed the play, it was determined that targeting was upheld and that Davis’s day with the Gators was over.

The ejection came at the 11:30 mark in the game, meaning Davis was on the field for less than four minutes before being tossed. It’s a huge loss, as Davis was a key player for the Gators a year ago, totaling 51 tackles, 3 interceptions and 3 pass break-ups in 2019.
Not the best way to start the season for the talented DB.
