The Golden Gophers boat may have got stuck in the doldrums this year but Minnesota announced Wednesday they had signed 19 players on the first day of the early signing period.

PJ Fleck’s program signed players from 10 states, including nine on the offensive side and ten on the defensive end, according to a press release from the university. The Gophers have struggled in 2020, going 3-3 while losing two games two Covid cancellations following their superb 10-2 season last year, a historic campaign for a school that has not won a Big Ten title since 1967.

The Golden Gophers paddled their way to the 8th best class in the conference, and the 26th best nationally despite the challenges in recruited presented by the national pandemic. Last season Minnesota was 9th, and 38th, respectively.

The Gophers are scheduled Saturday to wrap up their regular season in Madison against Wisconsin in the Battle for Paul Bunyan’s Ax. The game kicks at 3 pm ET and will be broadcast on BTN.
