Greg McElroy cautions B1G to not ‘stack the deck’ in scheduling to boost Playoff chances

Greg McElroy has laid out a possible strategy for the B1G to boost its chances to get in the College Football Playoff, and has cautioned the conference to not push it too far.

McElroy said he hoped there’s a more digestable structure in the scheduling format in the future. That would help avoid so-called cherry picking from the perceived weakness of the schedule of a top contender.

“You can kind of give off the impression, fair or unfair, that you can stack the deck for the teams that are likely to make a Playoff run,” he said on the “Always College Football” podcast. “If you’re Ohio State, you know you have Michigan, but what’s to stop the Big Ten from giving you 8 very manageable opponents in order to best curb things to allow them an easier pathway to the Playoff?”
