Five years can sure fly by quickly.
This month, the B1G is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its expansion from a 12-team league to a 14-team conference, adding Rutgers and Maryland to the mix. It’s hard to believe the 2019 college football season will mark the sixth year the two most-recent additions have been around.
The five-year milestone got us wondering about which teams have been most successful during the stretch, particularly in terms of conference record. So, we went through and compiled the league marks for all 14 teams since the 2014 season.
Here’s a look at each team’s B1G record over the last five years:
- Ohio State — 39-4 (.907)
- Wisconsin — 34-9 (.791)
- Michigan — 29-14 (.674)
- Northwestern — 29-14 (.674)
- Michigan State — 27-16 (.628)
- Penn State — 27-16 (.628)
- Iowa — 27-16 (.628)
- Nebraska — 20-23 (.465)
- Minnesota — 17-26 (.395)
- Maryland — 13-30 (.302)
- Purdue — 12-31 (.279)
- Indiana — 11-32 (.256)
- Illinois — 9-34 (.209)
- Rutgers — 7-36 (.163)
Just two teams — Ohio State and Wisconsin — have won more than 30 games in that stretch. Two more teams — Illinois and Rutgers — haven’t yet hit the 10-win mark. Neither Maryland or Rutgers has quite got their footing yet, both well under the .500 mark.
