According to 247Sports, the Iowa Hawkeyes have landed the commitment of three-star tight end Josiah Miamen.

Notably, this is a big pickup for the Hawkeyes not only because because Miamen checks in at 6-foot-4, 225 pounds as just a high school player, but Iowa ended up securing the Dunlap, Illinois product over one of their main rivals in the Big Ten West: Wisconsin.

The big tight end spoke to 247Sports about the reasons he chose Iowa. Not surprisingly, Iowa’s history of producing top-notch tight ends was a big factor for him.

“Iowa has a real family atmosphere,” Miamen told HawkeyeInsider. “The way that they play with their tight ends, the tight end the production that they get, and the NFL success of their tight ends are very apparent and that stood out to me a lot.”

Miamen took only two official visits before making his decision. One was, of course, to Iowa — when the Hawkeyes beat Iowa State. The other was to Wisconsin when the Badgers lost to BYU at Camp Randall Stadium.

Other schools in the running for Miamen’s commitment were Penn State, Michigan, Michigan Sate, Northwestern, Notre Dame and others.

According to the industry generated 247Sports composite rankings, he’s the No. 38 tight end in his class as well as the No. 16 ranked recruit from the state of Illinois.
