Two of college football’s biggest rivals are still in the mix for a highly-touted defensive back out of Buford, Georgia.

Jake Pope, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety, recently released his Top 8 programs during the recruiting process. B1G powers and rivals Michigan and Ohio State are still in consideration, as Pope trimmed down his list. Also in the mix are Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Oklahoma.

Pope released his Top 8 with a post on Twitter on Friday night. He is a 3-star member of the 2022 recruiting class and is ranked as one of the Top 400 prospects in the cycle, coming in at No. 392.

Several schools have extended an offer to Pope, as he’s received interest from 32 programs. Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska and Penn State all pitched an offer to Pope, but did not make the Top 8.

According to 247Sports, Pope ranks as the No. 26 safety and No. 37 player out of Georgia in the 2022 class. He was a versatile athlete at Buford High School, playing wide receiver, safety and kick returner during the 2020 season. His team finished 13-1 and won a state title.

Ohio State currently owns the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class for the 2022 cycle. Michigan ranks 19th nationally and No. 4 in the B1G.
