It’s never easy to lose, especially at home when you’re riding a 26-game home win streak, and it’s even worse when you paid your opponent over $1 million to come to town.

When Notre Dame left the field after losing 24-13 to Cincinnati on Saturday, they not only left with their first home loss since Jake Fromm was at QB, but also with $1.2 million less in the university coffers.

Notre Dame had been flirting with disaster all season, barely escaping south Florida with an OT win over Florida State, and needing to make a comeback to top Toledo. But this time, they didn’t have the comeback in them, as the Bearcats were able to force three ND turnovers and held the Irish to just 13 points at home.

Cincinnati quarterback Desmond Ridder completed 19-of-32 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns. Ridder called the victory “the biggest win in program history” — possibly the most profitable, too.
