Ryan Day repeatedly said that he believed his team was the best in the country after Ohio State defeated Wisconsin in the B1G Championship Game, finishing the year 13-0. He reflected that in his Coaches Poll ballot, too.

Day ranked the Buckeyes in the No. 1 spot, ahead of the likes of LSU, Clemson and Oklahoma. He also showed some respect to Wisconsin and Penn State, ranking them at No. 8 and No. 9 respectively.

In total, Day had six B1G teams in his top 25. Below is his final ballot:

  1. Ohio State
  2. LSU
  3. Clemson
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Georgia
  6. Utah
  7. Baylor
  8. Wisconsin
  9. Penn State
  10. Oregon
  11. Florida
  12. Auburn
  13. Alabama
  14. Michigan
  15. Notre Dame
  16. Memphis
  17. Iowa
  18. Minnesota
  19. Boise State
  20. Cincinnati
  21. Appalachian State
  22. USC
  23. Virginia
  24. Navy
  25. Oklahoma State

Obviously, Day’s pitch to get Ohio State at No. 1 fell short, as the Buckeyes were No. 2 in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Buckeyes take on Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl.
