Here's where every B1G team stands on ESPN's SP+ rankings headed into their first game
Teams in the B1G are about to get their first shot to show the country what they can do this season!
Though a number of teams and conferences have already hit the field, B1G action gets started this weekend with the Pac-12’s debut still a couple of weeks out. While it may feel like other teams have a bit of a head start in terms of playing and rankings, there are undoubtedly some B1G teams that will climb quickly with some convincing victories.

Not every ranking system has featured teams yet to see the field this fall, but ESPN’s SP+ rankings produced by Bill Connelly is one system that continues to include B1G teams yet to play a game. The rationale behind the SP+ system is a much more forward-thinking model geared at projecting final standings as opposed to current results.
With that in mind, here is where every B1G team checks in on the SP+ rankings headed into the first game of the season:
- 1. Ohio State
- 5. Penn State
- 6. Wisconsin
- 16. Minnesota
- 17. Michigan
- 27. Iowa
- 31. Nebraska
- 32. Indiana
- 48. Purdue
- 51. Michigan State
- 54. Northwestern
- 66. Illinois
- 84. Maryland
- 109. Rutgers
Hopefully the action in the B1G’s first week of games does not disappoint.
